IMPORTANT INFORMATION IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT BUYING A LAPTOP FOR MEDICAL SCHOOL:   This summer, the first year lecture hall is being completely renovated with new seats and tables that will make it easier to use laptops during class.  Yale does not require laptops, but we strongly recommend that you own a laptop.  All course material will be provided on USB flash drives (thumb drives), and you will often find it helpful to have your laptop in class.  If you are thinking about purchasing a new laptop, you may want to look at Yale’s recommendations for hardware at the following sites:http://www.yale.edu/its/students/med_students.html and http://www.yale.edu/its/stc/purchase/recommendations.html.   Questions?  Let us know.

FIRST HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT

  • Click here for your first assignment from Dr. Margaret Bia, Course Director, Pre-Clinical Clerkship, and Director, Clinical Skills Training Program.  You will be asked to write an essay based on an interview with a family member or friend about a medical illness.  The essay is due on September 1.

MAILING FROM STUDENT AFFAIRS

  • You will soon be receiving a letter from Dr. Nancy Angoff, Associate Dean for Student Affairs.  The letter is accompanied by a copy of the book, The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down, by Anne Fadiman.  As Dean Angoff's letter explains, this book will be central to important discussions and activities that will take place on September 2, and Anne Fadiman will be joining you for part of the day.  This mailing with your copy of the book should arrive shortly.
