News: 01/14/2009

With the first week of classes at Yale, we're starting to ramp up into the new semester with a delicious menu of dance options for y'all.  Just in the next week and a half we've got the following:

1.  This weekend:  YS&B Swing Bootcamp, Jan. 17 & 18

Yale Swing & Blues classes are back for the semester with the return of our wildly successful SWING BOOTCAMP!
Learn everything you need to get out on the social dance floor, in a single weekend! The basics of six-count, swing-out, blues connection and Charleston will be taught by fabulous YS&B instructors. Each day includes 3 hours of lessons with a one hour lunch break.

If you're totally new to swing dance and blues dance, never fear, we'll start from the beginning.  If you've taken our classes before, and want to learn more, we'll be teaching new material, and also revisiting the fundamental techniques you've been waiting for the ideal opportunity to brush up on.  If you have friends who you think would enjoy dancing with us, bring them along!  In summary, we'd love to see you there.

NB:  All of our classes are open to everyone! -- no Yale affiliation required. However, space is limited, so register today!  (See our website atwww.yaleswingandblues.org.)

Details:  Saturday 1/17 and Sunday 1/18, 2:00 - 6:00 pm
Price:  $25 Student; $35 Regular
Saturday's Session is at: 2nd Floor of GPSCY, 204 York Street, New Haven, CT
Sunday's Session is at: Christ Church Undercroft, 84 Broadway, New Haven, CT

2.  This weekend:  YS&B Practicum, Jan. 18

And after you've learned all the great new technique and those fancy Charleston moves, and you're just dying to try it out, what better place than the YS&B Practicum?  Where else can you dance right away in a relaxed, intimate setting where you can get constructive feedback from experienced dancers?  We will once again be dancing at GPSCY where our fabulously talented DJs will be spinning mixed Swing & Blues sets.

Thanks to those of you with sharp eyes who took me to task for not saying when and where Practicum was in last week's email.  Let me remedy that this week:  Dancing from 8-11:30 p.m. this Sunday, Jan. 18, on the third floor of GPSCY, 204 York Street.  FREE!

3.  Next weekend:  Solomon Douglas Kickoff Dance, Jan. 23

Because we are never satisfied with simply providing GREAT classes and FREE dance practica, we are aiming for the stars and bringing Solomon Douglas and the other two musicians in his Trio back to New Haven once again for our kickoff dance the Friday following the Bootcamp.  Many of you know Solomon by his reputation and quite possibly by direct experience of the music he plays, by which only rocks fail to be moved.  Don't miss out!

Date:  Friday January 23, 2009
Time:  Lesson 7:30-8:30 PM, Dance 8:30-11:30 PM
Location:  Christ Church, 84 Broadway, New Haven, CT 06511

4.  Week after Solomon:  Lesson series start!

The week following the dance with Solomon Douglas, our normal 4-week lesson series will begin.  We're still hashing out the details, but stay tuned for more news in the very very near future.
